Safety & Security

The offshore berth places LNG tankers further away from the public, which can be viewed as a measure to increase public safety. The existence of an offshore berth would eliminate marine traffic issues for commercial and recreational boaters in the Taunton River, while placing only a small area of Mount Hope Bay under limited security protection during LNG ship unloading.

The new proposal is also likely to reduce any impacts that would have been caused to traffic from LNG ships passing through the Brightman Street Bridge.
