Contributing to the Community

An LNG terminal in Fall River will bring additional supplies of energy to the region and could help reduce natural gas and power prices, according to an economic analysis by Global Insight.

The Weaver's Cove Energy project will also produce increased local tax revenues, new jobs and long-term benefits for area residents and businesses.

  • Weaver's Cove Energy will generate approximately $6 million in new real estate tax revenues. This will fund general budget items in Fall River and Somerset.
  • The project will create over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs during the three years of construction; these jobs will be earmarked for local residents whenever possible.
  • The facility will offer up to 50 permanent, well-paid, stable jobs. Local residents will be given preference in hiring and the company will provide the necessary training. An equivalent number of jobs will be created in the service and support areas required by the facility.
  • Once operational, Weaver's Cove Energy will purchase up to $4 million of necessary goods and services from local businesses each year (including smaller firms and contractors).
  • In addition, Weaver's Cove Energy will purchase approximately $3 million in marine services (e.g. tug boats, crews, pilots, etc.) annually.
  • This project offers the additional benefit of reusing a large, abandoned "brownfield" site - a site which imported energy for over 80 years - making it productive once again.

It is important to note that Weaver’s Cove Energy believes contributing to the community means providing local benefits that go beyond economic benefit, including taxes and jobs. The heart of this terminal is our employees, and the people who work here, live here and contribute to the financial and social well-being of the region. In this spirit, we belong to a variety of local and regional civic and professional organizations. We contribute annually to local philanthropic groups, such as Rotary International, Fire and Police Unions, YMCA, Local Food Pantries, child welfare homes, veterans’ organizations and senior citizen outreach shelters. We also contribute over $25,000 annually in local scholarships awarded to high school seniors.
